Atte.

Dr. Osmán Argüello
Presidente AVIS

Carta de Mr. Steven

Dear Dr. Argüello Sequera,

First, allow me to apologize for not responing earlier to your
message; I trust that you will forgive my oversight in dealing with
your request more expeditiously.

On behalf of IMIA President, Prof. Dr. Reinhold Haux and Dr. Fernando
J. Martin-Sanchez, IMIA Vice President Membership, thank you for the
application of the Asociacion Venezolana de Informatica en Salud
(AVIS) for National Membership in IMIA. As you may know, we are
particularly supportive in nurturing the expansion and growth in the
southern hemisphere.

Dr. Martin-Sanchez will submit your membership application for
ratification at the next meeting of the IMIA Board and subsequently to
the IMIA General Assembly (GA) for formal approval at its annual
meeting in Göteborg, Sweden on May 25th, 2008. The GA meeting will be
held in conjunction with MIE 2008 (www.mie2008.org) the annual meeting
of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), IMIA's
European region.

The approval at the General Assembly meeting will be formalized by a
brief presentation ceremony; I hope that you or one of your society's
representatives will be able to attend. In the meantime, I am pleased
to advise you that AVIS has been accorded "provisional" IMIA national
membership status.

We strongly encourage you to ensure that your society's representative
attends the annual meetings of the GA to represent your country and to
participate in discussion and debate. As IMIA is first and foremost an
international association, the most senior and influential members of
the General Assembly are the representatives of national member
societies.

One of the new benefits accorded to national societies (at a very
reasonable cost) is online access to the IMIA Yearbook of Medical
Informatics for all of your members. The Yearbook has proven to be a
valuable tool and resource for those of your members who are active in
research and education

The information that you have provided has been posted to the IMIA
website (www.imia.org). Please review the information on the site at
http://www.imia.org/member_societies.html - to ensure that the
information that you have sent has been correctly reflected.

The "members only" component of the website, IMIA's primary
"information vehicle", is currently being renovated; when this has
been completed we will provide you with your personal access code. The
public component of the site routinely publishes Coming Events, News
and Announcements, and hosts a variety of information and links to
resources. You are invited to post meetings, conferences etc, on the
"Coming Events" area of the web site; likewise, I encourage you to use
"News and Announcements". Both of these areas are driven by a dynamic
database and are "user friendly".

We cordially invite you to encourage members of your staff to consider
participation in IMIA's working groups - details as to their goals and
activities are available on the site as well.

I have taken the liberty of enclosing our invoice for your National
membership fees for the balance of 2007 and 2008. I will follow up
with a note on some administrative matters shortly.

Welcome to the IMIA family - I look forward to working with you!

With my best regards

Steven
